Walk with Us

I ran 135 miles across Death Valley. I am not going to suggest you do the same.

The part I actually took from it was not the distance. It was that I could not have covered a single mile of it on my own. Four people stood in 50°C heat for 39 hours and handed me things, and that is the only reason there is a photograph of me at a finish line.

Most people are trying to get through something without a crew.

Walk+Talk is the small version of the same idea

Once a week. A 30 to 40 minute stroll at whatever pace the group walks. A tea or a coffee afterwards. All ages and abilities, pets and prams welcome. Talk if you want to, listen if you would rather, there is room for both.

It is free. There is nothing to join and nothing to sign up to. You show up.

It is run by The Allegr Foundation, the charity behind everything I do that isn't running, and there are groups across the country.

If there isn't one where you live, start one

It takes a couple of volunteers and some support from the Foundation, who provide everything you need and guide you through the whole thing. That really is the entire requirement.

If you are a company

Walk+Talk runs from offices too, as a programme rather than a one-off event.

If you have served

There is a full programme of Walk+Talks for the military community, run through the Military App platform.

There is a tradition at Badwater that you cross the finish line with your crew.

It is not sentiment. It is just how it works. Whatever you are walking towards, it goes better with other people next to you, and this costs nothing and takes a Saturday morning.
