Meet the CREW
You don’t surviVe Death Valley on your own.
Like every great adventure in life, it’s best shared.
Here is my support and coaching team.
James Bradley, aka Brad
Crew Chief
I've known Brad for years now, first introduced to me through my brother. Brad is an ultra-athlete in his own right and he's worked with my brother since leaving University - another extreme ultra-endurance challenge. He's an extremely thoughtful and respectful person - he cares about people and causes. It's his selfless and balanced personality, coupled with his experience and organisation skills that have landed him the role of Crew Chief.
Anthony Fletcher, aka Fletch
Crew & Coach
I met Fletch a few years back through work, along with his wife Laura. We instantly hit it off - all sharing a passion for real community and a bit of running. As I helped Fletch and Laura with OneTrack the obvious next step was for Fletch to coach me and improve my running. The results speak for themselves. With Fletch’s programme I'm heading to the start line of Badwater 135. Having him in the crew and applying his expertise in real time is a huge boost and an imperative input of science to the whole project. And the bonus of Fletch coaching, is that I have also benefitted from Laura, his wife, helping with sponsors and support.
Nick Robinson
Crew
We rowed together at Oxford and that's where our shared joy of suffering began. Since then Nick has been in lockstep on many a running adventure. With both of us at 6' 6" it's not your average ultra marathon running duo, but then who want's to be average. He's laid back and seldom flustered, in the depths of Death Valley when you need to rely on someone to be there, step by step, he's that guy. Nick brings an exceptional physical capability hidden below a relaxed and light-hearted demeanour.
Rich Malcolm
Crew
Rich appeared from the darkness in the early hours of a 100 mile ultra as I ran around Halifax - no fuss, no complication. "Alright chap, you're looking strong - how can I help?" This wasn't the first time I'd met Rich, but it tells a fitting story. In the middle of the night, with no announcement he's there, in support - asking for nothing in return. Rich is an extremely caring and thoughtful human; he's a beacon of what humanity can be and I'm so pleased he's on the crew. First introduced to me by Rach, and of no surprise that they are mates.
Rachel Mitchel, aka Rach
Campaign Manager
Everyone needs Rach in their corner. Given Rach's Teflon-coating for accepting compliments, I can safely assume she won't read beyond this line. I first met Rach at the school gate; she was a runner, I was organising a run. That was the beginning of a great friendship, as well as the charity we co-founded that I am fundraising for. Rach is unable to be there in Death Valley which is a huge shame. She's an integral part of the team and one of most supportive and positive voices; it's her constant encouragement and belief that is a big reason why I'm on the start line. Whilst not following me along the road in Death Valley, she's behind all the sponsors, logistics, support and communication of the entire campaign.
